Indian Wells - Another Quart

I am in Martinique, in vacation presently, so at the time Angie was playing, i was away but thanks to Angie’s fans, I saw very complete highlight of this match.  Already knowing the final result, at this point, the match being already played out, the highlight was more than enough but I needed them to explain myself what happen.

In short, Angie lost 6-0, 6-2 and 30 something unforced errors, which is a way too many against  a player who is playing very good tennis lately,  but even the Russian herself, didn’t expect that much but credit to her, she seized that opportunity against a player who has reach quart final or best in all the tournaments she played so far this year.

There were a few games that could have turned the momentum but it just didn’t happen today.

Nowadays, when she loses a match, she always manages the crack a smile.

Indian Wells - Fourth Round, Angie def Garcia 6-1, 6-1.

It was late when the match started, but my friends and I set up the living room to have it on the big screen, ready to cheer for Angie as long as it was necessary.  Solid performances tonite overall, helped a little bit by the inconsistency of the French woman.  Angie played a clean match, didn’t left many chances to Garcia to comeback no matter the attempts she was trying to initiate,  Angie had other plan which was not linger on the court for too long.

Some photos of the match.

IIndian Well : Angelique def Elena Vesnina 7-5, 6-2

It was a weird match – at first, Angie was sharp enough, and Vernina was looking sometimes sure, other times not too sure of her game, and the German was taking advantage of it.  Then, Wim got on court and exchanged some words with Angie – wasn’t she leading 4-0? The next thing we know, it is 4-5  Vesnina serving for the set, Angie had lost her edge and Vesnina a had found little bit of hers.

However, this set was far from over, and despite only 42% of her first serve in, Angie managed to win the point when it mattered – and how much it mattered when she hits 2 ace to get the lead at 6-5 after a million deuces? It matter a bunch!  It was obvious that the momentun was back on Angie’s side.  A little hip cup when she served for the match at 5-1, but she broke back to claim the victory.

Angie will meet the qualifier Wang after a well deserved day off.

Indian Wells - Kerber def Makarova 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.

It was late on Friday night when they decided to change the schedule and have the match between Kerber and Malkarova on a different court.

After a slow start, Angie was trailing 0-3 when she leveled up the match to 3-3 but the Russian broke back and it got Angie thinking a little too much and she finally lost this set 6-3.  Angie had a break point on her opponent first game of the second set when it started to rain, the match is postponed to tomorrow and i am pretty much sure that it will get Etkatarina thinking too much.

When the match resumed the day after, Angie’s forehand showed up to her appointment with the  russian.  Angie broke and kept the lead for a while until she asked for a challenger on a tight call on the backline – and it shows one feet in… right!  It was obviously not that so the call stand and Angie got broken.

She quickly regrouped and we felt she was on a mission.  A few mistakes here and there, but she stayed strong and managed to win the second set 6-4.  The few games were a little tight in beginning of the third, but when Angie broke, she stayed focused till the end of the game, and enjoyed a well deserved victory.

My prediction also stand, Angie will meet Vesnina tomorrow, no rest for the wicked! hihi

How much do you like Angie's new outfit? Pretty neat, red always suits her fine, assorted with a tight black skirt.  I did think that the yellow/blue was nice too.

Indian Wells - BNP Paribas Open

So next tournament for Angie is Indian Wells, and most of the top players are going to be there.  When Angie’s draw fell out, i saw several potential revanches for our player to continue her way to regain her full confidence.

Some experts says there are 4 potential winners, and Angie is one of them, due to her great form, and her renewed desire to win.

This tournament also marked the return of Serena Williams, and the American was on the side of her sister Venus. I am personally not sure she is going to make it there do to the lack of competition, i mean, Serena is human, right? But i wont be surprised if she does, but then, i think Venus is in good form and she should prevail in this dual.  Azarenka is on Angie’s side, but her lack of competition should stop her before making it to Angie.

Angelique has a good chance to win this one indeed. She should probably crosses path with Marakova in the second round, and for some reasons, i know she is going to win this one.
Vesnina is the defending champ, and i don’t think she will succeed in her quest, most of all because if she even makes it to the third round, Angie is going to be waiting for her and i am sure she will be ready to take her down, as, if you recall well, last year, Vesnina defeated Angie to then go on and win the title.

Then, in the fourth round, it should be the French woman, Caroline Garcia, all France are freaking out about it, because they know, what Angie is capable of. And defeating Garcia she should. Then, the German should meet the Dane : last time in Dubai, Wozniacki won but I don’t think she will win this time – l’ll go farther, if they ever meet again this year, Angie will win each time.
Then, again, should meet Svitolina in Quart – I don’t know about this match, but she kinda of her number but i think it is time for Angie to take her down.

Then, let’s say she makes it – after studying the other side of the draw, i like Kvitova chances to meet her in the final for my Special K battle, but she is a little bit like a yoyo, so we never know. Muguruza is not regular either and she might get stunt but someone we don’t expect to win in the earlier round.

While we wait for the tournament to begin, see some pictures from last year edition below:
