Visiting the iconic Rottnest Island

Going to Australia always has been on my bucket list, i really wish to go one day and when i see images like that, it just really confirms that it is going to stay on my bucket list.

Angie and Sasha when to visit this superb Island so famous in Perth and this must be so awesome to stop by.  Angie made some new friends, they went on and did so Kayak and then came back to celebrate the new year with the Hopman Cup team.

Hopman Cup; Kerber/Zverev def Muguruza/Ferrer

Mixed double is always exciting, even more say with that formula.  Even if all 4 players had delivered great matches prior to this mixed, the manage to give a good performance.  Of course, when your team is compose of Zverev/Kerber, you have a small advantage on serve and the return, which to my point of view made a different, as Zverev served pretty good, and Angie returned pretty well during that match won by Germany 4-2, 4-3(3).

Zverev had already consolided the point for Germany when he defeated Ferrer not even an hour ago prior to this double, but any point are good for taken.

Hopman Cup: Angie def 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

What a great start of the year for Angelique Kerber - or was it the end of 2018? Either way, that is very promising for 2019. Not saying it was easy but it was certainly a gain of confidence for Angelique as she had lost her 5 last encounters against the Spaniard.

In the first set, Angie was in command.  The rallies were not always easy, but her directive tennis was the key.  Even though Mugu moved well for a tall girl, Angie was the quickest of the 2, able to turn defensive into offense at times if she hadn't take the point in our own hands already. In the second set, she lost her focus for a split second, and that was what forced a decider.  Angie stayed solid and strong, precised and powerful - when her focus is on, she is the best player in the world.

It was a great battle, even thought the match combined as much as winner than EU, the mistakes were rarely coming after a shot or 2, it was hard work and Angie deserves the win, giving the lead to Germany on their pool.

See below the press conference after Angie's win.  Sometimes, the journalists should stick to what matter but Angie always find a way to tell what she wanna say politely.

Getting ready

The time zone difference makes it a little bit confusing, as here in my Québec Canada, it's 13 hours difference. So which practice happened when exactly, i am not sure but all I know is that there are some really nice photos posted today.

Here are some of my favorites - her coach is there, in the interview I read it wasn't supposed to be there, but glad to see he was able to make it.

Practicing in Perth

Angelique made it safe and sound yesterday and today she hit the practice court.

There was also an interview with her coach, Rainer Schuttler and how unexpected it was to receive a call from Kerber team to be her coach.  He had other obligations and he had to set things to make it fair for everybody.  He said he wouldn't have accepted any other offer that quickly.  They talked, agreed, and it all seem to be a positive move for 2019.

I like that he said that they were worked hard, but also had fun getting ready for the new season.  It is so important to reach that balance, and this new collaboration seems quite promising.

Angie doesn't share much, and he is also very careful on the words he chooses so this also seem to be something that will certainly make this relationship works out.

If you look for that interview, it's right here. Main while, see some pictures of Angie practicing. I found them on twitter, and i can't find them anymore to thank this fan for sharing.

Safe and Sound in Perth

Angie has arrived safe and sound in Perth, after a 20 hours flight, and was obviously waited for at the airport.  Germany is in the Group A and will have the face Spain, France and Australia. As for now, competition for Germany starts on December 30th, at 10am - my Saturday 9pm due to the 13 hours difference.

Angie will have to face Garbine Muguruza who is an excellent test for the German to start the year.  Their previous meetings always been tough matches in which usually a few points were making the difference but after what I saw last week from the Spaniard, I am positive Angie will win this one.

2019 is about to begin

So, my plan this year is to post whenever i find stuff on our favorite, Angelique Kerber.  I sometimes lack of time, but i'll try to not make it an excuse this year.  Keep an eye on prior posts, I will probably update it as the year goes by.

2019 will be soon on its way and Angie wanted to repeat last year experience and flight to Perth to be part of the famous Hopman Cup - So, she left today her home country for Australia, where she will join her partner for the tournament, Alexander Zverev. See her below in a post she made today before taking off with Thai Airways.

Captain Angie, let's take command of Women Tennis!

Kerber gegen Kerber

Gabriela Herpell of ZS Magazin had the chance to sit and have a chat with Angelique.  ZS magazin promoted today, October Edition with Angie on the cover, on stand tomorrow.

I would have subscribe to their magazine, but I can't because, I am in Canada. I know I mostly write my blog for myself, but if one of you got the article and see this, if you kindaly share a copy, even if it is for my personal use only, I'd be grateful.

The title is ''Kerber against Kerber'', the photo are from Julian Baumann and they introduce the interview as follow: ''Kind, shy and self-critical, Angie had to learn to overcome herself on her way to the top''.

Sportlerin mit Herz

Our Wimbledon champion will be awarded during the "German Sport Press Ball" in November in Frankfort for the ''Sportlerin mit Herz'' award - athlete with a heart.

Angie was given this price following her great comeback overcoming her doubt and finding the strength to bounce back stronger.  It is not awarded only for her performances but mostly for the effort given, her core value, her exemplary behaviour as well as for her fairness and sportsmanship.

Congrat Angie, you deserve it!

Angie deserves the Golden Henne

Away from Germany as she was getting ready for the WTA Final, Angie was surprised during practice by Kai Pflaume to hand her the the trophy.  Read and see all about it here.

Her reaction was so authentical, so genuine, you can't help but being happy for her.

Mixing up her routine

After the US open, Angie returned home and enjoyed some quality time with her family and friends, but that didn't mean she didn't train or practice.  If you are an adept of the FitmitAngie program, you also know that it's good to mix it up a little.

RG - Angie stopped in quart

It is always tougher writing about Angelique's defeat. No matter the event, we would like to see our favorite wins, at all time but Angie is wiser then us all, knowing that she can learn from every match, win or lose.

She started strong, very strong, even taking the lead 4-0, but all of a sudden, Halep woke up and then the battle was on.  Watching the match, i didn't how she would managed, but i knew Angie will win the first set, and she did, with a well battled tie breaker.

The fight was more equal in the second set, but no matter what people things, it is Angie forehand that made the difference.  Since the beginning of the tournament, it had been a weapon, but it also been a little inconsistant, and this match, it cost a bunch. Halep managed to win the important in this match, and she finally turned things around to beat Angie.

It is the first mach of the year that Angie is losing after winning the first set, she was so close and overall, this tournament allowed the German to find her ground on a surface she hadn't been really in love with for the past couple of year and the lesson learn will certainly improve her game in other surface as well.

And there is so little missing to her game to beat everybody else.  When that forehand will find her consistance back, I am not sure no one will be able to stop her.

You are so close Angie, keep on believe, we do!

RG - Angie def Garcia 6-2, 6-3

After a more complicated match against Kiki Bertens, Angie started strong against the local favorite Caroline Garcia.  She was quick on her feet, was moving fast and hitting well.  Her backhand was regular as a clock, her forehand really powerful, but a little inconsistant at times, but nothing major as she was able to win the important points. Some spectacular points, closing the doors to the french woman on the the few occasions she had.  It may not have been the best match of Garcia, but Angie never let her get into the it.  Again, it was a little complicated to close it out, but broke back to win her spot in the quarter final against Simona Halep.
